Bad News Comes & Goes, But God Is Our Foundation

They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

-Psalm 112:7

Our life is like an ebb and flow. We are up; we are down. We laugh; we cry. Sometimes we feel successful, and sometimes, we feel like we have failed. Sometimes we’re walking a successful Christian walk, and sometimes we begin to doubt our very salvation. At times we walk confident and bold in our faith, and at other times we do not. And when we are going through difficult times, we forget. We forget that God’s foundation stands firm, and we can trust Him (2 Timothy 2:19).

What God Says About Difficult Times

If we stop and think about it, why do we call some times more difficult than others? It’s not because God has changed in any way; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Our circumstances change, our thoughts change, our confidence, finances, time, or work may change, but God does not change.

Our difficult times become unbearable when we fail to trust in Him. When we are no longer depending on the His firm foundation.

Examples of Bible characters who went through some difficult times

  • Moses, after hitting the rock
  • Noah, after the flood
  • Samson, after Delilah
  • David, after Bathsheba
  • Jonah, after his call to preach to Ninevah
  • Peter, after denying Christ
Our difficult circumstances are magnified when we are not fully trusting in God.

How Do You Trust God In Difficult Times?

Trusting in God means we believe He is who He says He is, and He will do whatever it takes to accomplish His will. God’s ability does not rest in our belief but despite our belief. A difficult time does not mean we have done something wrong and have to suffer for it. A difficult time is when we forget to lean into God and depend on Him to get us through.

During our difficult times is when we need to trust in God the most!

3 Steps to Activate Your Trust in God

If you are a Christian, then you have access to the throne of God. God in the Person of the Holy Spirit lives inside you. He has taken up residency there. If you struggle with trusting God in your daily life then practice these three steps to activate your trust in God.

  1. Pray daily. You don’t have time? We don’t make time for prayer because we don’t believe in the power of prayer. Imagine if you didn’t have time to stop for gas? Sometimes we have to change our priorities in order to change our circumstances.
  2. Read your Bible regularly. This is a tricky one. Bible reading isn’t required to be a Christian, but think about it this way–you take time to read recipes because you want to know how to cook a special dish. You take time to study for a class, read up on what’s trending, or check social media 10 x’s a day. Think about how much has gone into the Word of God being preserved so that we can allow it to sit on the shelf. The anwers to life are in the Bible.
  3. Meditate on God’s greatness. Praying makes the heart glad, Bible study gives you knowledge, but meditating on God’s greatness expands our beliefs in a supernatural way! We can not live off of someone else’s beleifs. Get to know God and form your own beliefs so you will be able to stand in any situation.
