10 Tips To Finding True Peace With God in Difficult Times

Finding true peace with God is more than just the absence of conflict; it’s a feeling of calm and contentment that comes from knowing that you are loved and accepted by God, no matter what.

True peace with God begins with embracing the unconditional love of God. You are no stranger to God. He knows what’s in your heart–your thoughts–better than you know yourself. Yet He still loves you. His love is not based on who you are or how you act. God’s love for you is based on His mercy and grace.

Real peace is realizing that you are a child of God. You have been forgiven, redeemed, and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit as you follow God’s plan for your life.

What Does it Mean to Find Peace With God?

Finding peace with God is when we accept His promise of “perfect peace” for all who trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3). It’s the assurance that through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can obtain peace between sinful man and a holy God.
God’s peace came over 2,000 years ago. When Jesus was born, the angels announced the good news that He would bring peace between us and God. Isaiah prophesied that Jesus was the Prince of Peace.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

The moment sin entered into creation was the moment humankind became an enemy of the Creator. But on the cross, Jesus made peace for us. Sin had been paid for, we were redeemed, and the separation between God and His creation was bridged as Jesus hung in between.

True peace with God is forgiveness of sin. We were once enemies of God, and now we are friends, more than friends–children of God.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 (ESV)

The Bible tells us that we can have peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ. We find true contentment and lasting joy through Him, regardless of our circumstances. When we trust Him and seek to follow His teachings, He gives us the confidence and strength to face any challenge that comes our way.

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1 (ESV)

How Do You Find Peace through God?

We can only find peace through God by a relationship with God.

We know that there will always be trouble in this world. It’s full of sin and selfish people. It’s easy to get caught up in stress and worry when faced with difficult circumstances, but God wants us to experience real peace in our hearts. He doesn’t want our minds to be filled with anxious thoughts about the future or be stressed about our current situation; He wants us to rest in His love and be content with who we are and what we have, and then we will experience a different kind of peace than what the world offers.

There are many things that try to take away our peace, but things and circumstances cannot take away biblical peace. If we put our hope and trust in the God of peace, we won’t have to overcome in our own strength because godly peace does not depend on us.

True peace will come despite your circumstances.

With His help, we can experience a peace that truly surpasses all understanding.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (ESV)

Some ways to experience true peace in Christ come from obeying God’s commandments, offering sincere repentance when necessary, serving others in their walk with Christ, and seeking a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Lord.

Finding Peace In Difficult Times

When times are tough, it’s natural to long for peace. But finding peace in difficult times is not always easy. In fact, sometimes it feels downright impossible.

We may feel like we’re surrounded by chaos and negativity and that we can never get away from it all. We may feel like we’re drowning under the weight of our struggles and that we’ll never be able to breathe again. We may feel like we have no control over what’s happening in our lives and that there is nothing we can do to change it.

But with a little bit of effort and determination, it IS possible to find peace in the midst of turmoil. It IS possible to find calm in the midst of chaos. It IS possible to find hope in the midst of despair.

As Jesus prepared His disciples for His crucifixion, He instructed them not to give up hope. Trouble was coming, but Jesus prepared them for the chaos that was coming with God’s promise of the Helper–the Holy Spirit.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 (ESV)

Jesus did not leave His disciples alone to do the hard work by themselves. In fact, Jesus told them it would be better if He left so the Holy Spirit could come. Jesus lived WITH the believers, but the Holy Spirit lives IN the believers, continuously working inside our hearts to produce the fruit of the Spirit.

Love, Joy, PEACE, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

10 Tips for Finding Peace in Your Life

As we search for a life of peace, Christians often wonder why they still struggle with anxiety, depression, fear, and worry despite their faith. The constant flow of “bad news,” especially through social media, can intensify these feelings. However, it’s essential to remember that God’s promise of eternal life and peace remains available for His children.

The following tips are firmly grounded in biblical wisdom. Contemplate them and apply them to your life, and soon, you will experience true inner peace that only comes from being in the presence of God.

1. Don’t Try to Control Everything

Let go of what you can’t control and focus on what you can. This sounds easy, but a lot of the time, we keep picking up the things that are out of our control. We can’t control our circumstances or other people, but we can control how we act and react in each circumstance.

  • The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)

2. Simplify Your Life

Get rid of the clutter and chaos, and focus on what’s important. Think about what’s really important during this time. Whether it’s stuff or people, you may have to get rid of things or set boundaries for friends and family.

  • Do not be conformed to this world,[a] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 (ESV)

3. Find a Support System

Lean on family and friends for help and encouragement. Let your church know what you’re going through. Sometimes people get offended when the church doesn’t offer to help through a difficult time. But if they don’t know, they can’t help. Ask for help.

  • Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (ESV)

4. Take Care of Yourself

God tells us to love Him with our mind, body, and soul. If you are not taking care of yourself, you will not be able to fulfill this command. Think about yourself; that’s not a sin. To love your neighbor as yourself, you’re going to have to learn to love yourself first!

  • For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. Ephesians 5:29-30 (ESV)

5. Be Grateful

Where joy is, there is great peace. Focus on the good, write things down that you are thankful for, and count your blessings–the material things you have, the people you have in your life. And if you cannot think of anything or anyone, then think of the goodness of God and be thankful that He has chosen you as His child.

  • Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)

6. Meditate on God’s Word

When you fill your mind with the Word of God and concentrate on His blessings and His promises, worry and anxiety will flee. Make a list of biblical affirmations from various Bible verses that you can repeat to yourself each day or whenever you’re feeling blue. • Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (ESV)

7. Start a Journal

Write about your day, start a prayer journal, or empty all the thoughts in your head by writing them on a piece of paper. Sometimes, our thoughts are our worst enemy, and when we find a way to get rid of them, we make room for good and helpful thoughts.

  • My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 7:3 (ESV)

8. Get Outside

Go outside and spend time in God’s creation. Nature has a way of calming and rejuvenating us. Take a walk around the neighborhood, sit on the front porch, or stand at the front door and see what there is to see.

  • O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Psam 104:24 (ESV)

9. Help Others

It’s hard to worry about ourselves when we are busy helping others. Take a dish to a neighbor, drive someone to a doctor’s appointment, or volunteer in the community. When we focus on others, it takes the focus off of our own problems.

  • Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4 (ESV)

10. Laugh

Laughter really is the best medicine! This is my favorite tip. Recently, I was going through a difficult situation, and my mind just kept focused on the “what ifs” and the “how comes; in order to get a break from the thoughts swirly in my head. I sat down to watch some comedy on TV, and within just a few minutes, I felt better and was able to handle my thoughts more productively.

A joyful heart is good medicine… Proverbs 17:22 (ESV)
