God Is Our light: Peeking Through The Doors Of Heaven

Night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever. ~Revelation 22:5

When nighttime comes, the world seems to be a different place. Sickness tends to get worse. People are fearful in places, where they typically feel safe. The cloak of darkness enables people to make bad decisions disguised under a false sense of anonymity.

In the realm of good and evil, dark portrays evil, and light portrays good. Satan, the fallen angel of light (Isaiah 14:12), is always referred to as the prince of darkness. Bad men wear black (and masks). And doing something evil is described as dark deeds.

On the other hand, Jesus is the Light of the world. Good guys wear white. And the good deeds done for others are likened to a light shining before mankind.

Several episodes in the Bible speak of light:

  • the light held by 10 young women as they waited for the coming of the groomsman
  • the light that we dare not hide under a bushel (OH! NO!)
  • the light showing the pathway for King David
  • The light the Creator spoke into existence on the first day of creation
  • And so many more.

However, as we read Revelation 22:5, we see that all those lights will not be needed in heaven. Why? Because God is our light. God is and will always be the source that shows us the way.

One day when we walk along the golden streets of heaven and we dangle our feet in the waters of life, we will not be concerned about the darkness of night. We will have no care for the dangerous things that could happen. We won’t be worried about losing our way in the darkness, because we will forever be with the source of all light—God the Father.

More to Read and Ponder:

  • Psalm 84:11.
  • John 8:12
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:5-11
  • 1 Peter 2:9-10
  • 1 John 1:5-9
  • John 3:2

How’s Your Light Shining?

We live in a dark world–wouldn’t you agree? People are wicked. Governments are corrupt. Churches are corrupt. Our leaders are greedy, prideful, and lustful. But we are not living in total darkness; not yet.

Jesus is THE Light of the world and He has called us, as followers of His, to be lights, also. So, how do we keep this ‘ole dark world lit up for the Father?

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. ~Matthew 5:16

We behave ourselves as children of the King! There is an exhaustive list of things we could do, but it’s not so much doing as being. If you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit living (abiding, dwelling) in you. Not walking beside you, not hovering over you—He is in your thought life, your conscience, your feelings, and your decision-making process.

The problem is—you are there, too. The Holy Spirit doesn’t control us, He leads us or directs us, but only as we allow Him to. And you will know when you are allowing Him to be the leader because you will be producing the qualities that come from Him:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

And when others see (or experience) these qualities coming from you, the Father will be glorified!

1 Peter 2:12 …they may see your good deeds and glorify God…”
