Perfect Peace

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

—Isaiah 26:3

Have you ever stood in the shower and let the water run over you without the busy work of washing? It’s a wonderful feeling! After I’ve been outside in the frigid cold way longer than I want to be, the only thing that will warm me up is a long, hot shower.

The first step inside is almost too hot, but as the water washes over me, my body begins to warm up, my muscles start to relax, and my teeth cease their chattering. I melt into a feeling of euphoria and imagine that I will live in the shower for the rest of my days.

God’s Perfect Peace

God’s perfect peace is like that kind of shower. When you feel overwhelmed by your circumstances, for way longer than you want to be, the only thing that will bring solace is God’s perfect peace.

Imagine the warmth of God’s Word flowing down on you as you begin reading and meditating on His beautiful words in verses like:

  • See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. -1 John 3:1
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? -Psalm 27:1
  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. -Psalm 46:1
  • God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us. -Romans 5:5
  • He will tend his flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs in His arms; He will carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. -Isaiah 40:11

As you silently breathe sweet words of worship back to Him, you will feel your burdens lift as your heart enlarges, and your mind melts into the precious knowledge that God has everything under His control.
